TWO EVENT CONCEPT

(Konsep 2 Kejadian/K2K)

A.    Definition

Pola dua kejadian yang dihubungkan oleh Conjunction (Sub-Ordinative Conjunction). Termasuk bagian dari Adverbial Clause of Time (AVC of Time).

Ciri – ciri:

ð Bisa masuk kedalam 3 waktu (Present, Past, Future).

ð Conjunction tidak bisa diikuti oleh Future Tense (kembali ke Present Tense)

B.     Kinds

1.   Bersamaan

Kejadian pertama (k1) dan kejadian kedua (k2) terjadi secara bersamaan

Conj  : While (sementara/sambil)

Kinds :

a)   Long Term (general time signal)

K1     : Simple          

K2     : Simple          

E.g.

1.  Sam tidur sambil mendengkur setiap malam

Sam sleeps while he snores every night

2.  Dia selalu membaca buku sambil tiduran

He always reads book while he lies down

b)   Short Term (spesific time signal)

K1     : Continuous

K2     : Continuous   

E.g.

1.  Cathrine  sedang menyapu lantai sambil bernyanyi.

Cathrine is sweeping the floor while she is singing.

2.   Jack  sedang bermain bola sementara saudaranya sedang tidur

Jack  is playing football while his brother is sleeping.

2.   Berpotongan

Kejadian pertama (k1) sedang berlangsung, kemudian kejadian kedua (k2) terjadi.

Conj : While, When, As (ketika)

Kinds :

a)   Tanpa Durasi Waktu

K1     : Continuous   

K2     : Simple

E.g.

Kemarin, Roberto sedang tidur ketika aku mengunjunginya.

Yesterday, Roberto was sleeping when I visited him

b)   Dengan Durasi Waktu

K1     : Perfect Continuous  

K2     : Simple

E.g.

Kemarin ketika aku sedang duduk di kursi selama 5 menit, bel berbunyi.

Yesterday As I was sitting on the chair for 5 minutes, the bell rang

3.   Berurutan

Kejadian pertama (k1) selesai, disusul kejadian kedua (k2).

Kinds:

a)   Tanpa Jeda (langsung)

K1     : Simple                       Conj : after, as soon as, once, when (k1)

K2     : Simple                                  before, until, till, when (k2)

E.g.

Saat aku membuka jendela tadi malam, aku melihat bintang-bintang.

When I opened the window last night, I saw the stars

b)   Dengan Jeda (tidak langsung)

K1     : Perfect                                   Conj : after, as soon as, once (k1)

K2     : Simple                                               before, when, by the time (k2)

E.g.

Aku sudah akan menyelaesaikan tugasku sebelum  aku pergi kencan nanti malam

I will have finished my duty before I go out on a date tonight

c)   Tidak memperhatikan Jeda

K1     : Perfect Continuous   Conj : after (k1)

K2     : Simple                                               before (k2)

E.g.

Setiap pagi ia menunggu adiknya selama 10 menit sebelum berangkat sekolah.

Every morning she has been waiting for her little sister for 10 minutes before she goes to school.

C.    Pola peringkasan dalam konsep 2 kejadian (time clause)

Syarat:       1. Subject main clause dan sub clause harus sama.

                  2. Sub clause tidak mengandung modal murni.

Kinds:

1.   Abridgment (Pemendekan)

Pola peringkasan dengan menghilangan subject, dan mengubah verb menjadi Ving.

Position : Initial, final

Pola:     

Conj + S + V è Conj + Ving

E.g.

1.  Ratna is eating rice while she is watching television,

Abridgment:

Ratna is eating rice while watching television.

While watching television, Ratna is eating rice. 

2.  After he was fired, he hadn’t got a work.

Abridgment :

He  hadn’t got a work, after (being) fired,

After (being) fired, he hadn’t got a work.

2.   Reducing (Penghilangan)

Pola peringkasan dengan menghilangan  Conj + subject, dan mengubah verb menjadi Ving.

Position : Initial,

Pola:     

Conj + S + V è Ving

E.g.

1.  After we had finished our breakfast, we went for a walk.

Reducing: Having finished breakfast, we went for a walk.

2.   While I was taking a walk, I found the wallet.

Reducing: Taking a walk, I found the wallet.
