(kata sambung)

A.    Definition
Kata yang berfungsi sebagai penghubung baik kata, phrase maupun klausa”.
B.     Kinds
  1. Ordinative (setara)
a)      Coordinative Conjunction (biasa)
·         For (karena), menyatakan sebab.
E.g. His teacher resented him, for he came late.
·         And (dan), menyatakan tambahan Informasi.
E .g. She and I go to school every day.
·         Nor (dan…tidak), menyatakan tambahan informasi negative.
E.g. He doesn’t go to work nor does his son go to school.
·         But (tetapi), menyatakan pertentangan.
E.g. Susan is getting sick, but keeps going to work.
·         Or (atau), menyatakan pilihan.
E.g. Do you want tea or coffee?
·         Yet (tapi), menyatakan pertentangan
E.g. Susan is getting sick, but she keeps going to work.
·         So (Jadi/sehingga), menyatakan hasil.
John came late, so his teacer resented him.
      NOTICE!
Ø And , But, Or           : menghubungkan antar word, phrase dan clause.
Ø For, Nor, Yet, So    : menghubungkan antar clause.
Ø For, But, Yet, So    : didahului comma.

b)      Correlative Conjunction (Berpasangan)
·         Both … and … (baik … maupun …)
E.g. Both you and I have known the news.
·         Not only … but also … (tidak hanya … tetapi juga …)
E.g. She is eating not only fried rice but also bread.
·         Either … or … (jika bukan … berarti …)
E.g. Either he or I took the money.
·         Neither … nor … (baik … berarti … tidak …)
E.g. Neither Bob nor Sam works in the company.

  1. Sub-Ordinative (tidak setara)
After               : Setelah                      Because           : karena
      Before             : Sebelum                    Although         : Meskipun
      When               : Ketika                       If                     : Seandainya
      While               : sementara                                          …………etc.

      E.g.
      She doesn’t forgive me, although I have apologized to her many times.
